Hoyer was one of the few bright spots for the 2013 Browns, winning his first three starts before being forced to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
What happened? The Browns were 7-6 with Hoyer in 2014 when head coach Mike Pettine made the ill-fated decision to instead start Johnny Manziel. Cleveland lost all three remaining games, and Pettine never came close to fielding a winner again before getting fired following the 2015 campaign. Hoyer has since bounced between Houston, Chicago and San Francisco.
Matt Cassel won’t help them win anything, so they had better hope Marcus Mariota can return after only one week out of the lineup. With a still-shaky defense, Mariota needs to play to lift everything in the offense.
What happened? The new Browns administration that arrived in 2005 didn’t think much of McCown’s future after his rookie struggles and subsequently traded him to Tampa Bay. McCown, who lasted in the NFL as a reserve for four teams over the next 12 years, is currently a free agent after being released by Dallas at the end of the 2017 preseason.
“He’s a scrapper. He’s a competitor. He’s a bulldog,” Gordon Hayward said of Smart. “And it’s fun to play with guys like that. He’s always going to make the energy play, the hustle plays, and I think, in the [first Philadelphia] game we had where he dove on the ball and he got the ball and we got a layup, those are like game-changing plays.”
Smart’s offensive play has been solid through Boston’s first three preseason games. He’s averaging 10.7 points per game on 54.5 percent shooting overall. He has connected on 7 of 12 3-point attempts (58.3 percent). Even in off-day workouts, Smart simply looks more confident shooting the ball.
In Week 6, The Patriots face one of the league’s biggest surprises in the Jets in another important divisional matchup. By Week 6, NFL contenders are becoming a lot more clear, and it remains to be seen who can challenge the undefeated Chiefs, who face the struggling Steelers.
The Panthers look to continue their excellent run on Thursday night against the red-hot Eagles, who powered to a win last week behind four Carson Wentz touchdown passes. Things aren’t getting any easier for the winless and injury-ridden Giants, as they have to face the 3-1 Broncos on Sunday Night Football. The Monday night game pits the Titans against the Colts.
Leonte Carroo Mens Jersey Tuesday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent out a memo to all 32 NFL teams that he wants players to stand for the anthem. He didn’t say how he would enforce players standing, but it’s expected for the issue to be discussed during the NFL’s fall meetings next week.
I had two teammates who did it, in Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson. That’s their right to do that, McCoy said. And if they’re gonna do it, they’re gonna have support of the whole team.

But if you take that away from them, there’s gonna be an uproar. It’s just gonna happen, because now it’s just like you have a voice at one point, but then you don’t at this point. And, that’s our right … it’s a constitutional right that we have, and if you take that away, I don’t think people are gonna take too kindly to it.
Each week of the NFL campaign we will sift through the deeper options at each position with an eye on identifying streaming fantasy commodities with valuable matchups to consider.
Do you need replacement options for injured or suspended players? Or are you merely dealing with depth issues? We have some choice names to consider for those seeking widely available options at each position.

Matt Bowen, NFL writer: Rams over Jaguars. That Jacksonville secondary is nasty. Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye will challenge every throw from Jared Goff; they’re physical cornerbacks with ball skills. However, can the Rams lean on a high-volume day from Todd Gurley and take some calculated shots up the seam versus the Jags’ Cover 3 shell? The team that controls the tempo wins this one. And I’ll go with the Rams to hold on for a victory in a low-scoring affair.
Alex Cobb Authentic Jersey Dan Graziano, NFL writer: Bears over Ravens. Look, this is a tough week to pick an upset. There aren’t really any that I like, except for a couple that I think would be too close to count here. (Rams in Jacksonville, maybe, or Lions in New Orleans, if Stafford is healthy.) So give me some Mitchell Trubisky on the road in Baltimore. I just don’t think the Ravens’ offense is capable of scoring consistently week to week. I think the Bears have been close in some tough losses, and they have a win over the Steelers, who dominated the Ravens in Baltimore in Week 4. It’s a flyer, but this is the week for a flyer. Gimme da Bears.
The promising rookie had a would-be touchdown just elude him in Week 5, but he saw the most targets in a single game in his young career (8). The Rams have a brutal stretch of games coming up (at Jacksonville, vs. Arizona, Bye, at New York Giants, vs. Houston, at Minnesota), but Kupp has value in deeper leagues for those with a receiver need.

The Kansas City Chiefs finished Monday night’s 42-34 win over the Texans without tight end Travis Kelce, linebacker Justin Houston or starting wide receiver Chris Conley.
Kelce had a concussion. Houston had calf spasms but was walking without any apparent problem after the game. Conley ruptured his Achilles tendon. He was on crutches in the locker room after the game.
Kelce was injured during the second quarter. He was examined for a concussion in the medical tent on the sideline, and coach Andy Reid said he cleared the test. Kelce returned to the game for a handful of plays late in the first half but didn’t play after that.
Hogan completed all five of his pass attempts on the drive as the winless Browns took their first lead of the season. Kizer, the rookie from Notre Dame who had started all five games this season, was 8 of 17 for 87 yards and an interception. The second-round pick contributed to an Isaiah Crowell fumble with a poor pitch in the first quarter after the Browns had driven to the Jets 3-yard line.
Cleveland’s lead was short-lived, however. Hogan was intercepted by Morris Claiborne on his first pass of the next series, leading to a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jets quarterback Josh McCown to Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

The Browns (0-5) would not get the lead back as the Jets (3-2) held on for a 17-14 victory to keep the Browns winless.
A LITTLE WHILE later, eight players from five teams — linebacker Jonathan Casillas of the New York Giants, safety Devin McCourty and special teams star Matthew Slater of the Patriots, defensive end Chris Long of the Philadelphia Eagles, linebacker Christian Kirksey, cornerback Jason McCourty, and tight end Randall Telfer of the Cleveland Browns, and offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum of the Jets — entered the League Boardroom at the NFL offices and took seats at the giant wood table with the league logo as its centerpiece.
The meeting itself was representative of not only the entire week but of the past few years, defined by discord and distrust on the issues separating the league and the union. Smith said last week that Goodell never mentioned the meeting with players during their Monday call, and that he first got word of it after hearing that Troy Vincent, the NFL executive vice president of football operations, had reached out directly to at least a dozen team captains to invite them to attend. A league source, however, says that team owners, not Vincent, invited the players, at the suggestion of Goodell. Both sides agree that Smith and other union executives were not invited until Tuesday morning, when Goodell asked them to attend in an email. But by then, it was too late. Smith was on the road for a series of locker room meetings and couldn’t attend.
Derek Carr’s latest back injury is a stunner, one that could end their playoff hopes early this season after a different Carr injury dashed them late last season. It’s now on their other on-field leader, Khalil Mack, to help the defense win more games.
That’s two straight big games for Russell Wilson as the Seahawks have gone back to their versatile, high-tempo attack to mask more of their line deficiencies. They should hope the Colts game also jump-started their defensive intimidation.
Seattle Seahawks left tackle Rees Odhiambo is practicing Wednesday after making what coach Pete Carroll called a very favorable turn from the chest injury that hospitalized him Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the team has ruled out defensive end Cliff Avril for its Week 5 game at the Los Angeles Rams because of the neck/spine injury he sustained last week. Asked if Avril’s injury is a long-term issue, Carroll said, It could be. It could be.
Like I’m saying, we’re going very slowly making sure that he takes the opportunity to talk with as many people as he needs to talk to so he knows what he’s got and what we need to do with it, Carroll said. We’re just going to take care of him and make sure that he’s well. If he wants to come back and we want to bring him back, we’ll let you know when we know. But right now we don’t.

I mean, we’re 2-2. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, Texans defensive end J.J. Watt said. It’s not like we’re the ones that are 4-0, so we’ve got to be a little bit tempered with that. But we’re very excited.
Obviously, a big game coming up on Sunday against a team who is undefeated in our conference, so, yeah, it’s a really big game. Hopefully we can have the same type of performance we had last week and yeah, it’s exciting, but we also need to make sure that we stay on the ground here.
Mason Foster Mens Jersey Exhilaration is running rampant in Kansas City as well, with the Chiefs pacing the NFL in point differential (plus-45) while ranking third in points scored (30.5 per game) and tied for 10th in points allowed (19.3). The Chiefs pummeled the Patriots to open the season and pulled a win out of the fire in a tense back-and-forth with the Redskins on Monday.
On Sunday, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. let fantasy owners know that he’s back. Nine grabs, two touchdowns, smooth route running and the ridiculous ball skills to finish plays. But what should we make of Isaiah Crowell’s subpar production? And who is jumping on the Chris Thompson train with me? Let’s get into that along with a look at Christian McCaffrey, the Eagles’ running backs and Stefon Diggs’ monster day against the Bucs. Here are my Week 3 fantasy takeaways.

John Brown, WR, Arizona Cardinals, quadriceps: After missing last week due to a nagging quad injury, Brown will sit again. A nonparticipant in practice throughout the week, Brown has not tested the leg enough to inspire confidence that he could play at competition level without a setback. Earlier in the week, coach Bruce Arians said it would have to be “miraculous” for Brown to suit up Monday night. Unfortunately, no miracles this week.
Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers, right shoulder/ankle, (Q): Despite the questionable tag, Newton is expected to play. The bigger question, perhaps, is just how effective he will be, not so much with his throwing arm but with his running legs. Newton is expected to get rest each week for his shoulder after undergoing offseason surgery. He has not had any setbacks with his shoulder since the season began. In Week 2, however, Newton’s previously reconstructed ankle became an issue again. At one point, Newton was down on the field for a period of time after the ankle injury, ultimately walking off under his own power, accompanied by the medical staff. While the injury doesn’t appear serious, it may result in Newton’s being even less inclined to scramble.

Brady was handily outplayed by Alex Smith in the Patriots’ season opener, completing less than 50 percent of his passes and failing to find the end zone. That could be a function of the Chiefs’ smothering pass defense, or just the natural progression of time finally catching up to the 40-year-old quarterback.
He’ll have the opportunity for a major rebound in Week 2 against a Saints secondary that allowed Sam Bradford to throw for 346 yards on Monday night. Brady’s dodged prolonged slumps throughout his career, but a poor performance in New Orleans could leave him wandering through a valley he’s rarely had to visit.
Cliff Avril Limited Jersey But Allen struggled in the spotlight at the start of the season and the two quarterbacks in Los Angeles may not even enter the draft in the spring.
“I continue to hear that it’s possible that Sam Darnold is going to stay in school, and I continue to hear that it’s possible that Josh Rosen is going to stay in school,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan Show on Friday.
There’s a very real possibility that Jackson will end up being a candidate — if not the favorite — to be the No. 1 overall selection for whatever NFL team is “lucky” enough to be that bad.
Even if you’re tuning in with your super serious scouting clipboard to take notes on Jackson’s NFL aptitude, it’s pretty easy to appreciate why he’s so fun to watch in the first place.

He makes a LOT of people miss and has enough strength and instincts as a runner to run north and south rather than just beat people to the edge with his speed.
The Miami Dolphins have suspended Lawrence Timmons indefinitely after missing the team’s season opener against the Chargers, the team announced on Tuesday.
The Dolphins filed a missing persons report with police in Los Angeles this past weekend for Timmons, per TMZ. Timmons was reportedly not in his hotel room the night before the game at bed check, before being found by police at LAX.
The indefinite suspension perhaps shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Head coach Adam Gase declined to comment on the situation on Monday. But when asked about his tolerance for a violation of those rules, he said via ESPN, “What do you think?” he said. “I’ve got two rules. It’s not hard.”
And that’s not all. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio says that the team knew Cravens was planning to report, and it’s possible Cravens will still show up at Washington’s facility on Tuesday.
The team initially put Cravens on the exempt/left squad list to give him time to decide what he wanted to do about his future, and he was expected to miss about a month of playing time. Placing him on the reserve/left squad list does free up a roster spot for Washington, but it still retains the rights to Cravens.
Deshazor Everett has taken over Cravens’ spot on the depth chart. Everett has 10 tackles over Washington’s first two games.
Cravens cannot return to the team or participate in any team activities for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old safety has been rehabbing a knee that required minor offseason surgery to clean up some meniscus damage, but he had been medically cleared to play in Week 1.
Injuries also held him back in his rookie season. Cravens suffered a concussion and a torn bicep, and he reportedly began to consider retirement at that time.
Cravens was drafted by Washington in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. He started three games in his rookie season, contributing 34 tackles, one sack, and one pick.
Kelvin Benjamin Authentic Jersey You saw Sunday what Martavis Bryant can do when a defense locks in on Antonio Brown. This is one of the six or so teams in the league that actually likes its offensive line. Get Bell going and this is a dangerous offense capable of outscoring anyone. And, like Carolina (another rusty-looking offense whose best player didn’t do much in training camp), the Steelers are 2-0 without having played their best.
Authentic Kids Ron Parker Jersey I really wish I could say I was surprised by the results, Robert Stern, a Boston University neuroscientist who has been studying the connection between repetitive head trauma and later-in-life neurocognitive issues for the past 10 years, told ESPN in an interview. Instead, it was more, ‘Oh yeah, this really is a big deal.’ And it’s just one more piece of the puzzle that, at least when it comes to youth football, has now gotten me over the edge to say, ‘You know, we shouldn’t be having our kids hitting their heads over and over and over while their brains are developing this way.’
The study, published Tuesday in the peer-reviewed journal Translational Psychiatry, suggests that children exposed to tackle football before the age of 12 are two times more likely to develop behavioral and emotional impairments later in life than those who start playing after that age. It also indicates that kids who start playing tackle before 12 are three times more likely to develop symptoms of depression later in life than kids who begin playing at 12 or older.
Stern acknowledged that the research released Tuesday has limitations and that the science has a long way to go. He noted that the subjects in the study were not random but instead had volunteered to participate. As well, the research was conducted through phone and online surveys, making it less robust than had the examinations been performed in person.
